Mari Waters is a corporate world runaway who decided to reconnect with her childhood dream: becoming a singer and writer. Since she was a little girl, she found the best advice in music to navigate through life and always turned to the wisdom of women like Nina Simone, Elza Soares, Gal Costa, Rita Lee, Norah Jones, Alanis Morissette, Lauryn Hill, Ivete Sangalo and Vanessa da Mata.
Mari is Brazilian and lives in the Netherlands as an independent artist, producer and global marketing advisor for artists of all sizes. Some call her savage, others call her magical. Her mission is to connect people, ideas, countries and cultures, in an anthropophagic musical movement, inspired by the Brazilian modernists of 1922.
Mari carries the serenity of Tarsila do Amaral and the spark of PAGU, creating her own narrative in the balance of contrasts.
The artist identifies with the fluidity of water, and her feelings navigate the rivers of creativity in 5 languages. Mari writes her songs in both English and Portuguese, depending on the day, the feeling and the context of each song. Picky eater for medical reasons, she follows an anti-inflammatory diet and avoids anything artificial, using the same principle to nourish her soul with more organic and natural music, focusing on simplicity and good intentions, like the old folks.
Mari likes to believe that her songs are some sort of "Grandma's food" for the soul, and she cooks with great affection for those she loves using as main ingredients: folk, bossa, jazz, blues, soul and pop.
